This is fairly straightforward traditional thrash along the lines of E-X-E, Tyrant’s Reign and Powermad. I love it when thrash bands maintain the NWOBHM roots, and when I heard this was another one of those bands I was eager to listen to it. While not greatly disappointed I was hardly jumping for joy.

Well Renegade certainly have their hearts in the right place, though they sound fairly derivative. The riffs lack power, mostly plodding along repetitively being a bit on the sloppy side. At times they come up with a good riff but it just doesn’t happen frequently enough and their powerless paper-thin production really does Renegade no favors. The solos sound rather bland and uninteresting and don’t really compliment the songs, though they are only included sparsely. The vocalist has a raspy shouting style that is a bit over the top, which is by far my favorite thing here. He sounds like the vocalist of Vendetta with a bit of the vocalist of Destructor thrown in.

Necromancer and Decapitation opens up the album with a few good riffs and some nice twists and hooks saving them from being completely dull. Black Ritual is the next track up, which is by far the highlight of the album. The energy is great, with a very fine vocal performance backed by some fast and catchy riffing. While the rest of the tracks may have an occasional interesting moment, They are overall very bland and unmemorable.

When there are numerous other bands playing this style of thrash creating much better material there really is little point to listen to this release.
